Juan Gris: “La Cantante” (1926)

Though Picasso is probably the name that pops up when one says the word Cubism, Juan Gris was an immensely talented artist who created some of the most important Cubist paintings, but whose name is less well known because he died very young.  Born in Madrid, he studied mechanical drawing, and later moved to France where he created most of his works and died at age 40 (1887-1927).  I love the contrast of the various reds and light blue in this painting.
